Marijuana Use Linked to Increased Risk for Gum Disease
High Levels of Usage Associated with Higher Odds of Periodontitis
Study Finds Daily Use for Years Raises Risk
People who use marijuana at high levels are at an increased risk for developing gum disease, according to a new study published in the journal JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.
The study, which included over 1,000 adults, found that those who reported using marijuana daily for years had more than double the odds of having periodontitis, a severe form of gum disease that can lead to tooth loss.
