Climbing: Watson breaks speed world record again
American climber sets new mark of 479 seconds
Mirosław continues to dominate women's speed climbing
American climber Samuel Watson has set a new men's speed climbing world record of 479 seconds. The 24-year-old broke his own previous record of 481 seconds, which he set in April 2021. Watson's new record was set at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Climbing World Cup in Villars, Switzerland.
Watson's record-breaking climb was part of his qualification round for the speed climbing event. He finished first in his group and advanced to the quarter-finals. Watson is the current world champion in speed climbing and is one of the favorites to win the gold medal at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
In the women's speed climbing event, Polish climber Aleksandra Mirosław continues to dominate. The 27-year-old has set the world record on 10 occasions, including twice in the early rounds of the Tokyo Olympics. Mirosław is the current world champion in speed climbing and is also one of the favorites to win the gold medal in Tokyo.
